DESCRIPTION:
This is an EXTREMELY RARE peanut bar candy shipping box from Norfolk, Virginia! This box bears a corporate logo in black stencil on one end. One side bears a stencil conforming to the then-recently-enacted Pure Food and Drug Act of 1906, dating this box to between 1906 and 1924 [when the plant closed]. According to an online source, "Robert Isaac Bosman was born on 15 June 1857 in Baltimore (Independent City), Baltimore, MD....He died on 24 October 1926 at the age of 69 in Norfolk, VA. Robert was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Norfolk, VA. He was a manufacturer of peanut products in Norfolk, VA. He was in business with John Lohman. Bosman & Lohman Co, had the registered Trade Mark 'NUT-LET.' They manufactured After Dinner Brand Salted Nuts, Nut-Let Peanut Butter, Peanut Bars, Peanut Candy Specialties, New Process Blanched Spanish and Virginia Peanuts. Their factory was the first to manufacture and market peanut butter commercially." The company sold much of its equipment to the Obici plant in nearby Suffolk, home of Planters Peanuts and the famous Mr. Peanut. We acquired this box from an estate here in Southeastern Virginia. A great addition to your Norfolk, peanut or peanut butter memorabilia collection!
