    Taylor, Smith and Taylor
is one of the most recognizable brands of collectible vintage dinnerware in America. Taylor, Smith and Taylor began producing fine dinnerware in 1899 in Chester, West Virginia. The company was founded and named for John Smith, Charles Taylor and William Taylor, along with Joseph Lee. Taylor, Smith and Taylor, or TST, was purchased by Anchor Hocking in 1971, who stopped producing the brand in 1981. TST china pieces are easily identified through markings that were put on the pieces during manufacturing, making it easier to find replacement pieces for sets.
The Laurel shape that these items were created in was introduced by Taylor, Smith & Taylor in 1933. This pattern is attributed to ceramicist J. Palin Thorley. Laurel is a plain round rim shape which replaced the older Iona and Capitol lines. A wide array of decorations was developed for the new plain shape. Early pieces of Laurel can be found marked with the TS&T shield backstamp. The remainder, including this set, have the standard TS&T wreath marking.
Condition: Very good used condition. There are no cracks of chips. Most pieces show minimal shelf wear; the two platters show moderate shelf wear. As expected for their age, there are light utensil marks and some wear to the platinum trim, especially near the rims. Crazing exists heavily on some pieces and is absent on others.
This is a great collection of 75 year old used fine china! Items are sold as is.
